MORE Fearless Watercolours – Part 2

MORE Fearless Watercolours – Part Two picks up where Fearless Watercolours for Beginners left off.  Except you will have less fear and more courage the second time around!

PREREQUISITE: Fearless Watercolours for Beginners or equivalent and please bring a  3 colour colour wheel that you painted to work with.

An exercise by Paul Klee. We won’t be doing anything this complex, but isn’t it wonderful?

We will begin with a  quick review of Fearless Watercolours for Beginners, along with a warm up/loosen up exercise. Our focus for the day will be basic colour theory.

What are your “go to colours”? Is there a colour you shy away from? What qualities do you associate with certain colours? Think about your home, the clothes you wear, the art you are drawn to.

We will work with colours that are opposities, colours that bring out the best in other colours, and colours that are harmonious together (or complementary colours and analagous colours). While doing so, we will gain more experience in using washes and glazes.

We will touch on using values in watercolours, and do a short exercise to play with different values.

Example of a reference photo, used to create the watercolour below.

During the afternoon, we will each work on a simple painting where we can put some of our new colour theory into practice. I will bring along some still life possibilities, with examples showing different ways to paint a still life.  You can work on a still life painting or if you prefer, you can bring a reference photo(s) of something you would love to paint. (Shout out to my friend Arlo who is not a big still life fan!)

As painting requires our whole body, as well as our mind, heart and spirit, we will do simple stretching and breathing exercises throughout the day.

Cost: $100 per participant. *A deposit of $25 is required to confirm your registration.  If you do not have materials, the materials you will need for the day can be provided for an extra $30.00.
