Try something new in 2018!
Saturday, January 20th from 10 – 4 in Fort Qu’Appelle at the Qu’Appelle Valley Centre for the Arts.
For beginners, Fearless Watercolours is an opportunity to use our natural love of play, experimentation, discovery and fun to explore this versatile medium.
I offer gently guided exercises to explore the basics or watercolour painting. Because watercolours can make some people fearful, I create an atmosphere that encourages you to get lost in the joy of discovering what happens when water meets brush and brush meets colour. We acknowledge our need to do things the “right way”, but we don’t let it get us down or stop us from having a lot of fun. We will approach watercolour painting with the attitude of “Spikey” – the spirited chicken to your left.
We will cover such basics as learning about different brushes and types of paper, learning about the role of water while painting, creating a simple colour wheel, basic colour mixing, wet on wet, dry brush techniques, glazing and elementary washes.
Our day will finish as we create a mandala (like a visual prayer or meditation) incorporating some of what we have learned during the day.
As painting is a body activity, we will do some simple exercises throughout the day to keep our bodies and spirits lithe.
Cost: $100 per person* plus supplies. Supplies for the day can be purchased for $30.00 or if you just need some supplies you can purchase them from me at cost. *A sliding scale is available for this day, allowing to pay what you can if your financial resources are low at the moment.

On Sunday, January 21st an optional followup to delve a little deeper will take place from 1 until 4. This is optional and will allow us to apply our skills using real objects. The cost is $50 plus supplies.
